Signals of Change: Women on the moon
The cultural moment, following #metoo and the rise of many international groups seeking empowerment for women who are still repressed in societies around the world, speaks to a more enduring message of where we must go. Space exploration is still a blank slate for us to show what we have learned through many societal experiments and advancements on Earth. The question is, what is women’s place at the table deciding that future. And what example will we set for the generations that follow?
Sustainable Development Goals and Space
This list was put together as a first draft to organize research on different ways that space activities are integral to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by all UN members in 2015.
They fall under three main categories:
Satellites (Earth observation, Internet, GPS)
System Design (closed-loop systems, life support, sensoirzation and biometrics)
Philosophy and Geopolitics (partnership, treaties, open-source)
The next version of this diagram will outline more explicitly which goals are tied to which category and provide examples. Please leave in the comments any other thoughts that come to mind.
Fashion Science part I
At the periphery of a wider conversation about FashionTech, in both digital/web-based and hardware/wearable based technologies is the integration of multi-disciplinary sciences into product concepts.
Science Fashion is a realm that combines principles of design, specifically for the body, and incorporates one or several of many scientific disciplines including psychology, materials science, engineering, ergonomics, physiology and biology. Unique and unprecedented applications of different fields of science are being integrated into products to address specific societal needs or as commentary on our current and speculative future state.
What if Picasso had gone to the moon?
The cosmos has been an inspiration to artists throughout the world and over the millennia. Before we had sophisticated artistic tools and more developed understanding of what we were looking at up in the sky, the mysteries of the astronomical world pushed us to experiment creatively.
Since the time for Picasso to travel to the moon has passed, and he would probably have taken a pass on the opportunity anyway, I often wonder which contemporary artists might accept.

Hello!
Twice in one week, the public will gather around #LaunchAmerica, building excitement around the development of this new space age, bringing with it new ways for companies to become involved in the space economy.
A lot of attention has been paid to the aesthetics of this launch, and the intention behind every element of the design. The Dragon suits are symbolic and play an important part in this larger cultural moment…
The first weekend of self-isolation
